SKAGIT COUNTY – On September 16, 2014, the Skagit County Board of Commissioners adopted resolution R20140287 initiating county participation in the State Voluntary Stewardship Program (VSP) to protect and enhance critical areas where agricultural activities are conducted.
The State’s Voluntary Stewardship Program enables an enrolled County to protect and restore riparian streams and other critical areas on agricultural land through new voluntary programs and coordination of existing programs, instead of new regulation.
Skagit County is looking for members of the public interested in being part of the Watershed Group. Over the next 12 months, the Watershed Group will develop the Work Plan that will initiate and implement the Voluntary Stewardship Program. The main objective of the Work Plan is to protect critical areas while maintaining and enhancing the viability of agriculture in the watershed.
For more information about VSP and instructions on how to apply for the Watershed Group, please visit www.skagitcounty.net/vsp. Application deadline: October 13, 2014, at 4:30 p.m.
