Two Injured in Crash on SR20 East of Coupeville

Island County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash on State Route 20 near Jacobs Road around 3:05 p.m. on December 14th, 2018. 

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 40-year old Jill Averill of Clinton was traveling Southbound on State Route 20 in a red 1993 Chevrolet Blazer when she crossed the centerline and struck a red 1998 Ford Econoline head-on.   The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to rollover.  The driver of the Econoline, 61-year old Michael Newman of Freeland was injured and transported to Whidbey Health for treatment. AVERILL was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. 

Troopers say the cause of the crash was “vehicle over center line” and possible charges are pending against AVERILL for Negligent Driving 2nd. 

Both Drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and both vehicles were impounded to Scotty’s Towing for Safe Keeping.
