Two Bellingham Men Die in High Speed Crash Near Sunset on I-5

Bellingham, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Northbound I-5 near Sunset in Whatcom County around 10:09 p.m. on December 13th, 2019.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 19-year old Karnveer Hundal of Bellingham was traveling Northbound on I-5 in lanes one and two at a high rate of speed as he approached milepost 254  in a black 2015 Audi S4.  Troopers say at the same time, 41-year old Julia Yu  of Vancouver, BC was traveling Northbound I-5 in lane two also approaching milepost 254 in a grey 2009 BMW X6.  Troopers say Hundal’s vehicle rear ended Yu’s vehicle at a high rate of speed before his vehicle veered to the right, left the roadway and caught fire.   Hundal and a passenger, 18-year old Manbir Singh of Bellingham both died at the scene.

Yu and a passenger in her vehicle, 41-year old Eric Chan of Vancouver, BC were not injured in the crash. A 7-year old female passenger was injured and treated at a local hospital.

Troopers say the cause of the crash is “Speed.”

The Audi was impounded by ASAP towing for safe keeping.
