Skagit County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a single-vehicle fatal collision around 2:56 a.m. on July 12th, 2022.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, a 40-year-old Stanwood man was traveling Eastbound on McLean Road in a 2002 Buick when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a pole on the Westbound shoulder near Best Road.
Local First responders and medics responded to the scene and attempted life saving measures, but the man died at the scene.
Troopers withheld the man’s name for 24-hours so next of kin notifications could be made and the family had time to contact other family members and friends. Troopers say the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor, and the cause remains under investigation.
The vehicle was totaled and impounded by Carl’s Towing for safe keeping.
UPDATED 1:00 p.m on 7/14/22: The Washington State Patrol has sent out a revised press memo stating the age and city of the deceased. Initially they stated a 48-year old Camano Island Man, it has been updated to be a 40-year old Stanwood man. Next of kin notification was completed by the Skagit County Medical Examiners Office.
