Burlington Man Dies in Crash on SR20 at Avon Allen Road

Skagit County, WA- The Washington State Patrol responded to a 2-vehicle, fatal traffic collission at the intersection of State Route 20 and Avon Allen Road around 7:55 a.m. on September 2nd, 2022.

According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, 28-year old Julie Johnson of La Conner, Washington was traveling Eastbound on State Route 20 in a 2019 Toyota Camry sedan in dense fog.  Troopers say Johnson ran the red light at the intersection of State Route 20 and Avon Allen Road and struck a Southbound 1975 MG Convertible in the intersection. The MG was being driven by 42-year old John Burke of Burlington, Washington. Troopers say Mr. Burke was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.  He died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.  Troopers notified next of kin at the scene of the crash of his passing. Johnson was injured and released at the scene.

Both vehicles were totaled and impounded for safe keeping. Peter’s Towing impounded the Toyota Camry and Carl’s Towing impounded the MG Convertible. Troopers say drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.  The official cause of the crash is listed as “Failure to Obey Traffic Signal.”
