Fatality Collision: SR548 at Northstar Road

February 26th, 2015. 3:07 PM. The Washington State Patrol responded to a three vehicle fatality accident on State Route 548 at Northstar Road in Whatcom County. 

According to the Washington State Patrol Press memo, Dante Deleon, 16 of Ferndale was Northbound on Northstar Road in a 2001 Mazda Protege, when he failed to stop at a stop sign at State Route 548. He was struck by an Eastbound, 1979 Lubbock Tanker Trailer, driven by 40 year old Clinton Gardner of Surrey Canada. Both Vehicles then crossed the center line and struck a 2000 GMC U-haul truck head-on. The U-Haul was driven by 37 year old Marques Mitchell of Bellingham.  16 year old Dante Deleon died in the accident.   The driver of both of the other vehicles suffered minor injuries and were released at the scene. 

Blaine Towing impounded the Mazda.Johnsons Towing impounded both the other vehicles.

According to the press memo all occupants were wearing their seat belts. 

The memo says drugs or alcohol were not suspected in the accident. 

The cause of the accident is listed as pending. No charges are pending in the accident.
