Newhalem, Washington- There have been some conflicting reports about firefighters and emergency personnel at the Upper Skagit Complex Fires needing supplies, such as shampoo, lotion and bottled water.
We reached out directly to Dennis Godfrey and Susan Ford, the Public Information Officers for the Upper Skagit Complex Wildfires about their current needs.
“We are grateful for the community support and the willingness to help the firefighters. We know people are looking for ways to express their appreciation and support, and that is a morale builder for the firefighters and provides a sense of encouragement. We do not, however, need any donations. The firefighting team has all the things it needs.”
“Often donations create logistical difficulties in getting items distributed and stored. At times, a fire will wind down and firefighters get redeployed, but the donations continue, which understandably creates problems.”
“We encourage people who want to help to give to organizations within the community or to organizations that support those who are suffering statewide as a result of wildfire.”
Please do not bring donations or supplies to the Incident Command Center.
Here are some other suggestions or local agencies you could consider making a donation to in honor of the firefighters: Click on the links to be taken to their websites.
