Skagit County, Washington– Portions of State Route 9, State Route 20 and State Route 530 are going to get a much needed touch-up during the next few months according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Contractor crews will begin resurfacing portions of these highways today.
The Contractor crews will put down Chip Seal, which is a crushed rock with liquid asphalt. The chip seal is to keep water from penetrating the road structure on paved surfaces, to fill and seal cracks and raveled surfaces of old pavement and it provides an anti-glare surface during wet weather among other things. The cost of chip seal is 15%-20% of the cost of pavement overlays.
Drivers should expect and plan for single lane closures on the highways through September from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursdays.
The areas affected are:
SR9: South of the SR530 intersection in Arlington and Lake Cavanaugh Road.
SR20: Between Race and Morris Roads on Whidbey Island
SR530: Between Sauk Prairie Road in Darrington and the SR20 intersection in Rockport.
Drivers can visit the Washington State Department of Transportation Skagit/Island County Construction Update Page for more information.
