Update: Mount Vernon Man Arrested for Burlington Shooting

Burlington, Washington- The Burlington Police Department responded to reports of a weapons offense in the 400 block of West Fairhaven Avenue on June 29th, 2016.

Officers contacted the victim who had been shot in the upper arm.

The resident told Officers that he was upstairs in his apartment when an intruder forced his way in by kicking open the door. He  told Officers the intruder shot at him near the kitchen and he tried to defend himself and swung a sword at the suspect. The suspect then fled the area.

Witnesses told Officers they heard a commotion, then a gunshot and saw a white male about 5’9″ tall wearing black running from the area.

Officers applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence. Inside they located the sword and sheath along with blood splattered throughout the apartment.   Officers also found a .40 caliber shell on a bed inside the residence along with a bullet that had struck the wall. Evidence indicated there had been a struggle in the apartment.

Once released from the hospital, the resident  spoke to Officers  and identified the suspect as someone he knew by the name of  Rayne Dee Wells who went by the name DJ.

Mr. Wells has previous convictions for armed robbery in 2003 with similar circumstances and felony convictions for Assault 2nd, Theft 2nd, Possession of a Firearm, Burglary 2nd and Theft of a Firearm.

He was booked into the Skagit County Jail and was being held in Lieu of $100,000 bail for suspicion of Burglary 1st, and Assault 1st.
