Resources Available For Those Considering Self Harm

Crisis Text Line

Burlington, WA – On April 9th, 2019, a student at the Burlington-Edison High School attempted an incident of self-harm while at school according to an email from Principal Todd Setterlund.

Burlington-Edison High School staff responded quickly to the incident, alerted emergency medical services, and stayed with the student until medical personnel arrived.  The student was transported to a local hospital and is recovering there.

Principal Setterlund said “Incidents like these can raise concern and anxiety within all members of the school community. Our  counseling team will be available  to talk and  help students process their feelings, questions, and emotions over the coming days and weeks. We  encourages students to seek help from others when they feel they are feeling down or vulnerable and to tell an adult if they are worried about a friend or themselves expressing thoughts of self-harm.”

Many students may want to talk to their parents about this incident and Principal Setterlund has attached some general information and resources available to help support these conversations.
