Hello everyone. My name is Erin McCarty. My mother and I run a group called Because We Care (or BWC). Our goal is to spread Christmas cheer and general care to those in need. A brief background about us; Last year was our first year doing this and we did sack lunches for the homeless. This year our goal is to provide what I like to call Christmas Present Packs. Basically we are doing two different kinds. The first being adult packs which include a blanket, and a hygiene kit (such as toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, combs, deodorant, shampoo, and other toiletries) inside a normal backpack. Second being kids packs, which include the same as the adult pack, except they also include a toy and everything is put into a child’s backpack. We are asking for help in four different ways. The first way is buying a candle through our fundraiser. The candles are Christmas scents. They are 12 oz. and $12.00 each. Half of the money goes towards the cause. Every 150 candles we sell, we put out the order so you get your candles in time. The second way is donating money on our Go Fund Me account, which is a pretty simple process. The third way is to simply donate any clothes, supplies, blankets, or canned/nonperishable foods. The fourth way is to just help out. There are several ways of doing this including helping sell candles, or helping give out the backpacks with us when the time comes. When the time does, we will be handing the packs out at our local Friendship House in downtown Mount Vernon, WA as well as any other shelters we are able to help out. This will be closer to Christmas time, most likely when the schools are on Winter Break.
I would also like to add a note that the Homeless Christmas Present Project is my Senior Culminating Project. The way this works is it will fall under the “Community Service” section of the Culminating Project. What is done is I organize a community service project (Homeless Christmas Present Project), and make it happen to my best abilities and then present what I did near the end of the year to teachers and peers. The culminating project is a graduation requirement at Mount Vernon High School. I chose this because I am SO passionate about helping those in need. It breaks my heart to see all of them, and I love that just doing things like this can make them so happy. I want to spread some Christmas cheer to those that do not have anywhere to be on Christmas. So please, please, PLEASE make this possible for them, and for myself. I would appreciate if everyone would share this, and just keep it going. Below are the links to our Facebook page, and our go fund me account, as well as the scents of the candles we are selling. Thank you so very much for taking the time to read this.
