Whatcom County MVC: SR9 MP78

Accident-File PhotoWhatcom County: December 23rd, 2014: 8:18 am. The Washington State Patrol responded to a serious injury Motor Vehicle accident on State Route 9 (SR9) near Milepost 78.

According to the press memo, Caelin Haskew, 19 of Acme, was Southbound on SR9 near MP78 driving a 2000 Chevy Impala at a very high rate of speed. He was unable to negotiate a curve and crossed over the center line, striking a Northbound 2012 International Box Van, driven by Michael Shipley, 61 of Sedro Woolley.  The out of control Impala then struck a Northbound 2002  Honda Civic head-on, causing the Honda to roll into the ditch on the right shoulder. The driver of the Honda was Raven Antiste, 23 of Ferndale.    The press memo states the causing driver and the driver of the Honda were both injured and transported to St. Josephs Hospital.  Both Drivers were wearing seat belts and both Vehicle were  impounded by ASAP Towing. The driver of the box van was not injured and the Box Van was driven to the Department of Transportation lot.

The press memo states the cause of the accident was over the center line. Charges of Reckless Driving are pending against the causing driver.
