Mount Vernon, WA: March 5th, 2015. The Mount Vernon Police Department responded to a security alarm at the U.S. Post office located in the 1200 block of Cleveland Avenue in Mount Vernon just after 10:30 pm last night.
Arriving Officer, Chantel VanDyk spotted a male subject walking away from the area and made contact with him. Officer VanDyk observed several lacerations on the hands of the individual and blood on his clothing. The subject was temporarily detained while officers checked the building. During the search of the building, additional officers found a door that had been forced open as well as a broken window. Inside the Post Office, there was blood on the floor from where the suspect had cut himself.
Upon searching the subject, he was found to have U.S. Stamps and a letter opener in his possession. A U.S. Postal Inspector was called to the scene. He will perform a more thorough inventory review with postal staff and determine if any Federal charges will be brought against the suspect.
The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team responded to the initial alarm call to help search the building for additional suspects. No Additional suspects were located.
The Skagit County Jail Booking report shows, Christopher Leslie of Mount Vernon, was booked into the Skagit County Jail on an Investigation hold for 2nd degree Burglary.
