Mount Vernon, WA: April 3rd, 2015. 4:47 pm. The Washington State Patrol responded to reports of a multiple vehicle collision on Northbound I-5 near College Way in Mount Vernon.
Arriving Troopers found 14 vehicles that had collided in one large chain reaction incident. The details on the incident are listed below:
According to the press memo, Gerald Porter, 57, of Sedro Woolley was Northbound I-5 in a white, 2001 Ford F150 pickup when he slowed for traffic ahead of him. A driver in the vehicle behind him, a 1998 Honda Accord, driven by Zenida Acevedo, 42, of Mount Vernon did not see that traffic had slowed and struck his vehicle from behind. This created a chain reaction involving 12 other vehicles.
Vehicle 3: A tan 2006 Lexus Rx400, driven by Susan Lane, 61, of Kirkland. She was not injured and her vehicle was driven from the scene with reportable damage.
Vehicle 4: A Green Mazda 626, driven by Savannah Odle, 17, of Clinton. She was not injured and her vehicle was totaled. It was towed by Budget Towing.
Vehicle 5: A red 2011 Mazda 3 driven by Brittany Weiss, 29, of Mount Vernon. She was not injured and her vehicle was totalled and towed via a private tow.s
Vehicle 6: A silver 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan, driven by Chihwei Wang, 37, of Redmond. His vehicle had reportable damage and was driven from the scene.
Vehicle 7: A Blue 1995 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by Brett Frost, 45, of Bellingham. He was not injured and his vehicle had reportable damage. It was driven from the scene.
Vehicle 8: A Blue 2004 Volkswagen Passat, driven by Bernicce Ford, 69 of Bellingham. She was not injured and her vehicle had reportable damage. It was driven from the scene.
Vehicle 9: A White 2006, Hyundai Satafe, driven by Mckenzie Williams, 35, of Seattle. She was not injured, her vehicle had reportable damage and was driven from the scene.
Vehicle 10: A blue 2012 Ford Fusion, driven by Jay Williams, 47, of Oak Harbor. He was not injured. His vehicle had reportable damage and was driven from the scene.
Vehicle 11: A black Audi Q5, driven by Kim Monson, 57, of Fall City. He was not injured. His vehicle had reportable damage and was driven from the scene.
Vehicle 12: A grey 2008 Acura MDX, driven by Samuel Floreza, 55, of Surrey B.C. He was not injured. His vehicle was totaled and impounded by Budget Towing.
Vehicle 13: A green 1995 Nissan Pickup, driven by Horeb Villareyes, 30, of Burlington. He was not injured. His vehicle was totalled and towed from the scene.
Vehicle 14: A gold 2003 Ford Taurus, driven by Jesse Collins, 34, of Mount Vernon. He was not injured. His vehicle had reportable damage and was driven from the scene.
The cause of the accident is listed as inattention and the press memo states multiple infractions were written.
Several other collisions were reported in the same area. A two car accident in the Northbound Lanes before the Trooper O’Connell Memorial Bridge. An accident near the SR20 Interchange with I-5, a 3-car accident on the Trooper O’Connell Memorial bridge and an accident involving two semi-trucks.
Shortly after trooper cleared the freeway, a stalled vehicle was reported blocking traffic. The driver had shut their car off while stopped in traffic and it would not start. Troopers responded and jump started the vehicle, clearing it from the roadway.
Traffic was backed up for miles in both direction.
