Update: Sedro Woolley Man Crashes Stolen Truck

News Update-File Photo Sedro Woolley, WA: On April 8th, 2015, around 11 pm, Skagit 9-1-1 received reports of a Motor Vehicle Accident on Lafayette Road near Sterling Road in Skagit County.

Deputies from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office responded as well as local Firefighters and medics.  Arriving deputies found a large construction truck with no one inside.   Arriving medics arrived and stated a  Male was walking away towards Sedro Woolley.

Deputies checked the area and found Abraham Duran, walking North on Sterling Street about 3/4 mile away from the accident.  Mr. Doran had glass on him and was extremely intoxicated.   The deputy asked Mr. Doran about the crash and he attempted to push his way past the deputy saying he just wanted to go home.  The deputy advised him he was not free to leave and Mr. Duran pulled away from the deputy.  The deputy had to call for priority back up as Mr. Duran resisted attempts to be placed into handcuffs. Mr. Duran screamed racial slurs and yelled of South Carolina and Ferguson while being cuffed.  He threatened officers that his “homies” would come and that he was going to sue Officers.    Mr. Duran then resisted as deputies put him in the patrol car and swore and cursed at them. He continued screaming and cursing and had to be pushed into the back seat of the vehicle after being told he was under arrest.

The Washington State Patrol was called and agreed to investigate and transport the subject for further testing for driving under the influence.  Sedro Woolley Officers responded to assist as Mr. Duran was being very combative. The suspects shoes were observed and he had to be pulled from the Sheriff’s  car after refusing to exit the Rig to be placed into the State Patrol vehicle. He then had to be pulled into the State Patrol vehicle after refusing to enter it to go be tested    The Washington State Patrol Trooper found Marijuana on his person.

Deputies then responded back to the crash scene where they found the unique and same shoe prints on the interior of the construction truck.  They recovered glass and a palm print as well. The truck was loaded with about 100 sheets of OSB Plywood, 3 rolls of Tar Paper and shingles with an estimated value of over $1,000.  The owner of the vehicle was then contacted and confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen from Morgan Lane, which was about 1/4 mile away from the crash scene.

While at the jail, Mr. Duran was so combative that he was physically resisting Troopers and Officers  in the B.A.C room to the point that it was unsafe. He also attempted to kick Sgt. Pierce with the Sedro Woolley Police Department. Troopers  were unable to complete the breath test and entered him as a DUI refusal.

Mr. Duran was secured in the jail until a search warrant for blood was obtained by the Washington State Patrol.  After Receiving a search warrant for a blood draw, six Washington State Patrol Troopers, including a Washington State Patrol Sergeant from Snohomish County,  as well as several deputies escorted him to the Emergency Room at the Hospital. Troopers stated “He was out of control,  volatile  to a point that I had not seen in years.”

The Probable Cause Affidavit states, Mr. Duran is suspended 3rd degree for unpaid tickets as of November 2012. The physical evidence puts Mr. Duran in control of a stolen motor vehicle and it’s construction property at the time of a collision where he left the scene.  It also states he is believed to be operating the vehicle on a suspended license, and under the influence of Alcohol. He also resisted arrest during arrest and detention.
