Skagit County, WA: July 20th, 2015. 5:04 pm. The Washington State Patrol, along with Firefighters from Allen and Edison Fire Departments, responded to a High Risk, 3 vehicle collision with serious injuries on Chuckanut Drive near milepost 10.
According to the press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 23 year old Tyler Quillin of Bellingham was parked on the right shoulder of Southbound Chuckanut Drive (SR11) at mile post 10, near the Oyster Dome Trail head, in a red 2004 Saturn Vue, when he entered the roadway to travel Northbound.
A black 2003 Suzuki GSXR60, driven by Robert Dickison, 24, of Bellingham was Southbound on Chuckanut Drive (SR11) when it struck the left rear of the Saturn. The rider, Robert Dickison was transported by medical crews but later died as a result of his injuries.
A third vehicle, a blue 2005 Yamaha FZS600 motorcycle, was also Southbound on Chuckanut Drive, driven by Cody Barrow, 20, of Bellingham. His motorcycle struck the first motorcycle and crashed in the roadway. He was injured but was released at the scene.
The Press memo states that both motorcycle riders were wearing USDOT Compliant Helmets and had valid motorcycle endorsements. It also states that drugs or alcohol were not involved in the accident.
Passengers in the car were, Robyn Bowman, 21 of Custer, and Holly Rathjen, 22, of Bellingham. The press memo states they suffered minor injuries and were released at the scene. They went to the hospital to be checked out.
All three vehicles were impounded by Peters Towing.
Witnesses on scene said the two motorcycle riders that crashed, were not riding together, however the deceased motorcycle rider appeared to be riding with two other motorcycles at a high rate of speed, passing cars and driving recklessly, prior to the crash.
After the accident, one witness said the other two motorcycles stopped briefly, looked at the accident scene and took off at a high rate of speed without checking on the condition of the rider who crashed.
The Washington State Patrol says the cause of the accident is under investigation and charges are also under investigation.
