MOUNT VERNON, WA: The Mount Vernon Police Department responded to reports of  gunfire  just before 5:30 pm tonight on South 27th street and East Section in Mount Vernon.

Initial reports are that 10-11 shots were fired from two vehicles. The vehicles are described as a Silver Honda Accord 4-door with a sunroof and the second vehicle was described as a Green Chrysler Mini Van type with 4 doors.

The vehicles were said to be occupied by multiple Hispanic Males, possibly  with semi automatic hand guns.

Komo 4 News Reporters,  Kara Kostanich and photographer Mitch Pittman were covering a story about a prior drive-by in the neighborhood when multiple gunshots were fired from a Honda Accord. Their crews took cover and were not injured in the shooting.  Click here to be taken to the Komo 4 News Coverage of the shooting.

There have been no reports of injuries in the drive by shooting.

This is the second time in less than 24 hours that Mount Vernon Police has responded to shots fired on South 27th Street in Mount Vernon.

Detectives are looking into whether the early morning  Shooting and this shooting are related to the Double Homicide on I-5 earlier last week, or the June Shooting at the Bellis Fair Mall in Whatcom County.
