Mount Vernon — Motorists traveling in Mount Vernon during late-morning on Tuesday, August 11, should allow themselves extra time to get to their destination.
A procession of police vehicles is anticipated to honor fallen Washington State Trooper/Detective Brent L. Hanger.
The family procession will depart Kern’s Funeral Home at approximately 11:30 a.m. and head south on South 3rd Street and east on East Blackburn Road.
The police motorcade will begin on South Laventure Road, head North from East Section Street, and proceed to the Skagit Valley College campus.
In order to ensure the safe passage of the procession, the intersection of East College Way and South Laventure Road will be closed for approximately one hour. Please plan accordingly.
Members of the public wishing to view the motorcade may do so from any sidewalk along the route. Please note: Skagit Breaking Staff strongly encourages members of our community to line the sidewalks of the motorcade route, holding flags and signs of support in honor of Trooper/Detective Brent Hanger of Mount Vernon. If you have never attended a memorial service for an Officer, it is a very moving experience and I strongly encourage members of the community to support our Officers and Troopers by attending the service.
For members of the public who are attending the ceremony, parking is available at the student and event parking lot of Skagit Valley College, 2405 E College Way, Mount Vernon. The event center parking lot is located on College Way, just east of the college.
The memorial service will be held on campus at the DuVall Pavilion.
