Everson Bicyclist Injured After Being Struck By Car

Bicycle AccidentWhatcom County, WA: The Washington State Patrol responded to a Motor Vehicle Accident on East Smith Road and Sand Road in Whatcom County today.  The Washington State Patrol released the following information on the incident.

On August 18th, 2015, around 12:20 PM the Washington State Patrol responded to a Car versus bicyclist accident on East Smith Road at Sand Road in Whatcom County.

According to the press memo, Sylvia Woodbury, 69 of Everson, was traveling Westbound on East Smith Road, riding a bicycle  on the shoulder.

Margaret Ishll, 67 of Bellingham, was also Westbound on East Smith Road in a 2007 Honda Pilot. As she drove past the bicyclist, the bicyclist swerved into the roadway for an unknown reason and collided with the vehicle.

The bicyclist was transported by medics to St. Josephs Hospital in Bellingham. She was said to be in critical condition with head injuries. An update on her condition was not available at the time of this article.

 The press memo states she was wearing a helmet and drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the accident.

The driver of the Honda Pilot was not injured and the vehicle was driven from the scene.

The cause of the accident was listed as unknown and charges are under investigation against the bicycle rider.
