Bicyclist Hit by Car Flown To Harborview

Skagit County, WA – September 3rd, 2015 11:22 PM. The Washington State Patrol responded with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office and Firefighters from the Alger Fire Department to the 5000 block of North Darrk Lane near the Skagit Valley Casino for a high risk, serious injury motor vehicle collision.

 

According to the Press memo from the Washington State Patrol, Kelli Mireles, 37,  of Sedro Woolley was Southbound on North Darrk Lane in a 2003 Volvo S604D when she attempted to make a left hand turn into a parking lot and struck a Northbound Motorized Mountain Bike being driven  by David Biggart, 30 of Tulalip.  The press memo states that Mr. Biggart was not wearing a helmet. He was seriously injured in the collision.

A medical helicopter from Airlift Northwest was called and Mr. Biggart was flown  to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

His sister, Krystal Hernandez told us that he is still at Harborview and is heavily sedated.She said, “He has a broken Clavicle and shoulder blade. He made it through brain surgery this morning and the swelling on his brain is getting stable,”

 

The cause of the accident is listed as Failure to yield and charges are pending against the driver of the Volvo.

The motorized bicycle was impounded for safe keeping to the District 7 Washington State Patrol Bullpen.

The driver of the Volvo was not injured and was released at the scene.

The press memo states drugs or alcohol were not involved in the accident.
