Island County Woman Killed in SR20 Crash

Island County, WA- October 14th, 2015. 9:06 am. The Washington State Patrol responded to a two car fatality accident on State Route 20 at Frostad Road, 5 miles North of Oak Harbor in Island County.

According to the press memo from the Washington State Patrol, Edna Blackwood, 97,  of Oak Harbor was killed when she pulled out in front of another vehicle.  She was reportedly driving a white 1991 Honda Accord Westbound on Frostad Road,  when she pulled out in front of a Northbound 2016 Ford F150 Pickup. The pickup was driven by 72 year old John Balda of Oak Harbor.  Mr. Balda was injured and transported to Whidbey General Hospital.

The press memo states both drivers were wearing their seat belts and drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the collision.

Both vehicles were totaled and impounded for safe keeping by Christians Towing.

The press memo states the accident remains under investigation and charges are not pending.
