Concrete Man Dies in Crash on I-5 Near Nulle Road

Whatcom County, Washington– The Washington State Patrol responded to a two car fatal collision on Northbound I-5 near Nulle Road, 2 miles South of Bellingham around 12:35 this afternoon.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 52-year old Thomas Werda of Concrete, was driving Northbound on I-5 near Nulle Road in a blue 1987 Nissan Pickup when his vehicle left the roadway and struck an unoccupied  red 1992 Dodge Pickup that had been abandoned on the Right shoulder.

The blue Nissan Pickup came to rest on the passengers side in the ditch and the Red Dodge pickup partially rotated and came to rest fully blocking the on-ramp from Nulle Road with debris partially blocking Lane 1 on I-5.   Mr. Werda was pronounced dead at the scene.

The press memo states Mr. Werda was not wearing a seat belt. Both trucks were impounded by Hortons Towing for safe keeping.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. The press memo states drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the collision and no charges are pending.

Next of Kin was notified by Trooper Mattox and Trooper Schuster.
