Skagit County 911 Manager Honored by Department of Defense For Patriotic Support

Mount Vernon, Washington. – Skagit County 9-1-1 Manager Helen Demel was presented with a Patriot Award June 2 by John Van Dalen, ombudsman for the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee, in recognition of extraordinary support of her employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.

Demel was nominated by Army Reserve Sgt. Marco A. Brin, a Law Enforcement Dispatcher, who is currently deployed.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Van Dalen. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

“I am honored to be awarded the Patriot Award,” said Demel. “To us here at the county 911, supporting those who defend our country is a no-brainer. We are a team to support his position and even his pets while he is gone.” The support I get from my boss means the world to me,” said Brin.

Skagit County Commissioners Ron Wesen and Lisa Janicki were in attendance to congratulate Demel for her award.
