Mount Vernon, Washington– Mount Vernon Police Officers responded to reports of an assault complaint around 7:50 am on June 19th, 2016.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained through a public disclosure request by SkagitBreaking.com, 32 year old Russell “RJ” Gronemyer Jr. of Sedro Woolley was arrested after admitting to assaulting a Mount Vernon man with brass knuckles.
The incident started when the victims mother called 9-1-1 to report that her son was outside and “all bloody” but she would not let him in as she had a protection order against him barring him from contacting her.
Officers responded and contacted the victim who reported he was staying in a shed on the property with a female. The victim told Officers he woke up to RJ in the shed and told him to leave. The victim said RJ then attacked him with brass knuckles. Officers observed two goose egg lumps on the victims forehead, where his skin had been cut and torn and the injuries were bleeding. There was blood on his hands, chest and legs as well.
The victim told Officers that RJ had assaulted him and RJ and another male had robbed him of items. RJ and the male reportedly took two Seahawks Jerseys and a Sony Subwoofer worth a combined total of around $350.00. The victim was treated at a local hospital and arrested for violation of a no contact order and five outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
Around 2:30 pm, Mount Vernon Officers contacted RJ on South 7th street while responding to a suspicious person call. He was taken into custody on suspicion of robbery. One of the stolen Seahawks Jerseys was found on his person, along with the victims Id and other items that had been taken during the robbery. Brass knuckles were located in a bag he was carrying.
RJ admitted to assaulting the man over his girlfriend buying narcotics from him as well as other things.
RJ Gronemyer was booked into the Skagit County Jail on suspicion of Robbery in the First Degree. He has since been released pending his next court case.
