Burlington, Washington- Like many in the community, Skagitbreaking.com has learned that 16-year old Sarai Lara of Mount Vernon was one of five people tragically killed in the shooting at the Cascade Mall in Burlington on September 23rd, 2016.
Sarai a Mount Vernon High School Sophomore and the youngest shooting victim, had went to the Cascade Mall with her family, just like many of us have done since the mall opened in 1990. The 16-year old shopped for pants at Macy’s while her parents went to another store in the mall.
A 20-year old Gunman walked into the Macy’s store and killed her as well as four other people for no apparent reason other than they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
While Sarai’s name and information has not been Officially released by the Skagit County Coroner’s Office, Sarai’s mother spoke with several news agencies through a translator about her daughters murder. Sarai had survived cancer and was well liked in her school.
Classmates and Friends of Sarai are asking that all Mount Vernon High School students and staff honor her by wearing Pink and Purple on Monday morning when students return to school from the weekend. They are encouraging other schools in the area to follow suit and stand united and wear Pink and Purple for Sarai as well.
