Man Survives Crash After Car Hit By Train Near Conway

Conway, Washington- A man in his 20’s survived being hit by an Amtrak Train believed to be going nearly 80 miles an hour near Peter Johnson Road North of Conway on Thursday Evening.

Firefighters from Skagit County Fire District 3 and medics from Skagit Medic 1 responded to reports of a vehicle verses train crash at 8:10 pm at Jones and Fir Island Road.  Arriving first responders found a  car mangled but the driver was alert and talking.

The driver, later identified as Dominic Laufenberg of Mount Vernon was transported to the hospital with both bones in his forearm broken, a concussion, multiple cuts and bruises all over but none that required stitches.

A photo of the mangled vehicle, a 2015 Ford Mustang pictured below  is barely recognizable. It  shows just how lucky the driver was that he wasn’t seriously injured or killed in the crash.
