Snohomish County, WA – The Lakewood School District called parents in the district this evening to inform them of an incident that happened yesterday involving a man exposing himself to a student as the student got off a school bus. Below is the message in its entirety.
‘This is the Lakewood School District calling to inform you of an incident that happened yesterday afternoon. After school when dropping students off the bus in the Lakewood Commons area, one of our students was encountered by a man who came out of the bushes. This man was approximately 6 foot tall and exposed himself to our student, then fled on a green bicycle. Authorities were called and the incident was reported.
The district is making our staff and community aware of this situation and our drivers will continue to be alert to their surroundings when picking up and dropping students off. We would like to take this opportunity to ask that you talk with your student regarding their safety and when at all possible have an adult or older sibling waiting at the bus stop with your student. Plan with your child what he or she should do in a potentially dangerous situation. Remind your son or daughter that if approached by a stranger, he or she should run away. Tell your child that if a stranger touches or attempts to grab him or her, that they should yell and scream to attract attention. If an incident of concern should happen to any child, call the police right away!
The safety of our students is our primary concern and we want to thank you for partnering with us in this effort.”
