Infant and Toddler Die in Crash on Camano Island

Camano Island, Washington –  The Washington State Patrol responded to a tragic  crash in the 600 block of North Sunrise Boulevard at 7:36 am today.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 23-year old Tanya Canell of Camano Island was traveling Northbound in the 600 block of North Sunrise Boulevard in a blue 2002 Dodge Caravan with her two young children.

The press memo says due to  icy road conditions and fog, it is believed the  van  left the roadway and went over an embankment, striking a tree head-on before rotating where it became fully involved in fire.   Tanya was seriously  injured in the crash and was  airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Tragically, a 3-year old female child  and a 5-month old female Infant both died at the scene.  Next of Kin was notified by Washington State Patrol Sergeant Glover.

The press memo states drugs or alcohol were not suspected in the crash and all three passengers were wearing their  proper seat belts and safety equipment.  Washington State Patrol Sgt Mark Francis called the crash a “tragic accident.”

Officials with Camano Island Fire and Rescue posted on Twitter and asked their followers to “Please keep all involved in your thoughts and prayers.”

The Cause of the crash is listed as Road Conditions and no charges are pending in the crash.
