Skagit County, WA – Kaleb Slaatthaug, a homeschool student and recent graduate of Hillcreek Christian Academy, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts.
Kaleb was presented the Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor ceremony on December 12th, 2016. This accomplishment represents almost five years of work and dedication to the Boy Scout program for Slaatthaug, a member of Big Lake’s Boy Scout Troop 4427, led by Scoutmaster Kevin Nelson.
Slaatthaug lives on Pleasant Ridge, near La Conner, and began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub in 2005 with Pack 83 in La Conner.
To satisfy the requirements for the Eagle rank, Slaatthaug achieved one more than the minimum 21 merit badges required and performed many hours of community service, most of them serving as a tutor for Children of the Valley in Mount Vernon.
For his Eagle project he constructed two sidewalks and a picnic table for Children of the Valley’s new location on 18th Street. Kaleb raised nearly a thousand dollars in donations and cash in order to accomplish his goal, as well as overseeing more than a dozen volunteers who came to help.
Slaatthaug is the son of Kory Slaatthaug and Mickey Bambrick of Pleasant Ridge.
