Inmate Dies at Skagit County Jail

Mount Vernon, WA –  A man brought to the Skagit County Jail by Officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department on Outstanding Warrants has died.

According to a statement from Charles Wend, Chief of Corrections, on Tuesday, December 20th, 2016 a man was brought to the Skagit County Jail by Officers from the  Mount Vernon Police Department.  The male inmate who has not been identified,  was provided medical observation, laundry service and a meal by jail staff.

Later, just before 3:30 p.m. and minutes after interacting with Corrections Deputies, the man  was found unresponsive.

Aid was called to the scene and Skagit County Jail Staff performed CPR on the man until Mount Vernon Firefighters and Medics arrived. Despite immediate life-saving attempts to resuscitate the man, he was declared deceased at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death.
