Cascade Mall shooter found dead in jail cell

The man charged with killing five people at Cascade Mall last September was reportedly found dead in his jail cell Sunday night, April 16, 2017.

Arcan Cetin, 20, was being held in the Snohomish County Jail following an evaluation to assess his mental competency pre-trial. Charged last year in Skagit County for the deaths of five people at the Cascade Mall Macy’s department store in Burlington, Washington, the killings rocked the community and prompted widespread support for the victims’ families.

On Monday, April 17, the Skagit County prosecutor’s office released the following statement: “Skagit County received unconfirmed information that the deceased found in the Snohomish County jail may be alleged Cascade Mall suspect Arcan Cetin. Skagit County is working closely with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office as they investigate this matter.”

A press release from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office did not officially identify the male inmate who was “found unresponsive” at approximately 6:50 p.m., however, news outlets have been reporting Cetin to be the deceased individual. The press release further stated that upon discovering the body, jail personnel immediately began CPR, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to revive him.

Cetin had recently been transferred to the Snohomish County Jail from Skagit County Corrections.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner has yet to officially release the inmate’s identity and cause of death. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.

Skagit Breaking will update this story when more information becomes available.
