Burlington, Washington– A large aluminum baby elephant that was stolen from His Place Church in Burlington was recovered after an observant metal recycling employee at Skagit River Steel and Recycling notified police.
Burlington Officers were able to contact the female attempting to recycle the stolen elephant for money and she was detained. The female had multiple warrants out for her arrest for unrelated crimes.
Officers were able to contact representatives of His Place Church who confirmed the elephant was the one that had been stolen from the church back in January of this year.
The thieves damaged the elephant by spray painting it white, but the church members said they should be able to scrape the spray paint off the elephant and get it back to it’s original color.
Having baby animals surrounding the Ark was something Pastor Bruce’s Mother, Marilyn Wersen always wanted to see as part of her original vision for the Children’s Church.
When she passed away last year her memorial funds provided for the first installment of five animals that are meant to surround the Ark, before it was stolen.
Church members are happy to have the elephant back to honor Marilyn Wersen and the Wersen family.
