Marysville Police Investigating Homicide

Marysville, WA – Officers from the Marysville Police Department responded to the 500 block of State Avenue around 5:00 p.m. on June 11th, 2017 for reports of a male brandishing a firearm.

During the course of their investigation, Officers learned that two individuals who had just gotten off a Community Transit bus had gotten into a verbal argument.   One of the males pulled a handgun and brandished it.  The subject had left the scene before Officers arrived. A search of the area was conducted by Officers and a tracking K-9, but was unsuccessful.

Approximately ten minutes after the initial search had been called off, Officers received several calls about a shooting in the 4500 block of 73rd Place NE. This is approximately 12 blocks to the Northeast of the original weapons offense call.

Officers responded to the area of 73rd Place NE and contacted a 59-year old male who was sitting on the curb. A handgun was recovered nearby.   The male was taken into custody without incident.

A 59-year old male victim was found deceased in a nearby yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Marysville Police Commander Mark Thomas said “It is still very early in the investigation, Motive for the shooting, and any relationship between the suspect and victim are still under investigation.”

Marysville Police Officers were able to confirm that the suspect in the original weapons offense in the  500 block of State Avenue and the suspect they took into custody on 73rd Place NE are the same suspect.    The deceased male is not the same male involved in the original weapons offense call and he was not near the shooting location.

The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on one count of Murder in the second degree and one count of Assault in the first degree.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
