Mount Vernon, Wa– The 18th annual Champions of Diversity program at Skagit Valley College recently bestowed $203,500 in scholarship funds to select multicultural students.
More than 650 people attended the ceremony including, students, friends, family, university and college supporters, and local community partners.
A total of 59 high school seniors were awarded with up to $10,000 to fund their attendance to: Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, The Evergreen State College, University of Washington-Bothell, University of Washington-Seattle, Washington State University, Western Washington University, and Skagit Valley College.
Also being honored that evening were 94 high school sophomores and juniors. The 10th and 11th grade students received a Champions of Diversity certificate, recognizing their contributions to diversity in their high schools and communities.
All of the students honored at the ceremony attended either, Sedro-Woolley High School, Mount Vernon High School, Burlington Edison High School, Oak Harbor High School, Everett High School, La Conner High School, or Arlington High School.
The Champions of Diversity award ceremony has been sponsored by Skagit Valley College Foundation and Skagit Valley College Multicultural Student Services for the last 18 years.
