Three Teens Arrested in Mount Vernon Drive-By Shooting

Mount Vernon, WA – On Friday, June 15th, 2018 around 11:42 P.M., Mount Vernon Officers were in the 800 block of Garfield Street investigating an incident. An Officer on-scene witnessed a vehicle pull up in front of a residence with its headlights off.  Officers say several subjects exited the vehicle and gunshots were fired at the residence.

The Officer intervened and four suspects fled on foot. Three of the four were located and taken into custody by Officers already in the area.

Mount Vernon Officers requested the assistance of additional Police Officers from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, the Sedro-Woolley Police Department, Burlington Police Department, The Washington State Patrol and the Bellingham Police Department to set up containment in the area of the shooting so they could search for the fourth suspect.  K-9 teams assisted in the search and Officers were able to locate a handgun in the area but not the fourth suspect.

The investigation identified the fourth suspect as a 29-year old female from Burlington, Washington.

The three suspects that were taken into custody were identified as a 17-year old Mount Vernon male and two 16-year old Mount Vernon males.

The three suspects were booked into the Skagit County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with Drive-by Shooting (RCW 9A.36.041), Assault 1st Degree (RCW 9A.36.011) and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. (RCW 9.41.040)

There were no reports of injury and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing according to a press memo from Mount Vernon Police Department Patrol Division Lieutenant Mike Moore.
