Skagit County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a three vehicle crash on Northbound I-5 at Bow Hill Road around 2:16 p.m. on October 10th, 2018.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 31-year old Kayleigh Thomas of Lynden was traveling Northbound on I-5 in lane two in a silver 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander, when she struck a deer in the roadway. Thomas stopped her vehicle in lane two after striking the deer.
34-year old Jeremy Permen of Ferndale was also traveling Northbound on I-5 in lane two in a silver 2010 Toyota Prius and had stopped behind the Mitsubishi Outlander due to the previous collision with the deer.
Troopers say a red Volvo Tractor and Trailer being driven by 63-year old Valery Kalashnikov of Bellevue was also traveling Northbound on I-5 in Lane One. Troopers say KALASHNIKOV was changing lanes into lane two, to avoid an uninvolved slowing vehicle in lane one, when she was unable to stop and slammed into the back of the Toyota Prius pushing it into the Mitsubishi Outlander.
73-year old Delton Walter of Blaine, a passenger in the Prius was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Prius, Jeremy Permen of Ferndale was injured and transported to Skagit Valley Hospital where his condition is unknown.
Kayleigh Thomas and Valery Kalashnikov were not injured in the crash.
Troopers say the cause of the crash and possible charges remain under investigation.
