Island County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle fatality collision in the 900 block of Ault Field Road around 3:17 p.m. on September 7th, 2019.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 48-year old Garrel Powers of Oak Harbor was turning Eastbound on Ault Field Road in a tan 1987 Imperial Limited Motor Home. As Powers turned onto Ault Field Road he used the Center Turn Lane to make a wide Right Turn.

Troopers say a 24-year old male from Roosevelt, New York was driving behind Powers on a green 2019 Jiangsu Baodiao BD125-15 motorcycle and attempted to pass the motorhome on the right. Troopers believe the Motorcycle rider realized the Motorhome was moving back into the main lane of travel and  attempted to avoid a collision by applying the brakes and he was ejected from his motorcycle where he died from his injuries.  The rider was wearing a USDOT Compliant helmet at the time of the crash. It was unclear if he had a valid motorcycle endorsement or if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Powers and two passengers in the motorhome were not injured. The passengers were identified by Troopers as  37-year old Floyd Powers of Oak Harbor and 22-year old Martin Powers of Oak Harbor.

The motorcycle was impounded to Christians Towing for safe keeping. The motorcycle rider was not identified pending notification of Next of Kin in New York.

The cause of the crash is listed as Unsafe Passing.  Possible Charges are under investigation.
