Mount Vernon, WA – The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to reports from a caller on Interstate 5 around 9:01 p.m. of heavy smoke coming across the Freeway in the area of Mr. T’s in Mount Vernon. Fire Units responded to the area and initially didn’t locate a fire, but quickly located a structure fire in the area of North 1st Street. The fire was upgraded to a second alarm fire and units are currently responding for move up assignments from Burlington, Skagit County Fire District 6, Fire District 3, Clear Lake, Big Lake, McClean Road,

A victim was located on the second story of the structure and was rescued by fire units on scene. He is currently being treated on scene by medics for smoke inhalation before being transported to a local hospital for treatment. Active Fire was visible from at least one side of the structure and firefighters were making access to the adjoining units to search for victims.
