The reason this music column was started in Skagit Breaking was to bring awareness to the rich tapestry of musical talent that we have right here in our own backyard. Not only does Skagit Valley have an array of talented musicians, who perform all sorts of different genres of music we can listen to on any given weekend, but we also have extremely talented musical “artists”. Musical artists are visionaries who compose and write their own music. They are lyricists who tell stories through music. Have you ever had feelings that you can’t describe to someone …. then you hear a song that describes your emotion perfectly? That was composed by a musical artist. Sometimes the same musical artist sang the song, or a musician was hired to deliver the artists piece.
We have many musical artists here in our valley, but Cory Vincent, Jack Mattingly and Wes Jones are standouts in the field. Their style is Americana which encompasses different traditional styles of music such as country, folk, blues, rock and everything in between.
Every once in awhile the stars align and we are able to experience all three of these visionaries at the same time. This Saturday, February 22nd, is one of those times. Tickets are only $10, which is a steal considering you get to experience not only three of Skagit Valley’s top musical artists, but accompanying them will be Charlie Krengel on lead guitar who is considered one of the best local guitarists here in the county. If you love musical tradition and Skagit County then you don’t want to miss this opportunity.

Some disclaimers …. the closer we get to the event, the faster the tickets are selling. There is no guarantee on whether or not there will be any tickets available at the door. Also, the venue holds a lot of people but there is VERY LIMITED seating. In Skagit County we are accustomed to everyone being able to have a seat, however in bigger cities it is normal for half of the audience to be standing throughout an entire performance. So think of this as a big city artist performance in the small town of Sedro Woolley.
