Yakima County, WA – The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) was informed on Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 that a fan in attendance at the 1A, 2A Hardwood Classic in Yakima on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The WIAA has been in contact with the Yakima County Health Department (YCHD) and officials have been notified that the fan was in attendance at the 1A, 2A Hardwood Classic on Saturday from around 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
In an abundance of caution, the Yakima County Health Department has recommended that WIAA notify those people that may have been in close contact with the individual to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 over the course of the next five days, through Saturday, March 21st. Close contact has been defined by the Center for Disease Control as being within six feet of a case patient for a prolonged period of time.
As a participant, it is unlikely that you were in close contact with the individual, however it is best to stay informed and take precautions.
It is not required or recommended that you notify the local health department of your exposure at this time. If you begin to show signs of COVID-19 symptoms, contact your health provider.
