Stanwood, WA – A 20-year old Stanwood woman was killed after a single vehicle crash in Stanwood around 3:40 p.m. on Friday, April 10th, 2020.
According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, a 25-year old Mount Vernon man was driving a white vehicle in the 29000 block of 80th Avenue Northwest in Stanwood when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then left the roadway and struck a tree and both occupants of the vehicle were ejected. The 20-year old female died at the scene and the 25-year old male was transported to a local hospital where his condition remains unknown.
Initially, Deputies had tweeted that the man was deceased, but updated their tweet to say they had received conflicting information from the hospital and have deleted the incorrect tweet, saying the males condition remains unknown.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office says Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) Detectives are investigating the crash, but detectives believe speed and alcohol may have been a contributing factor to the deadly crash.
Official Identification of the deceased woman, including the cause and manner of death will be completed by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. If the male survived the crash, he will likely face vehicular manslaughter charges.
We will update this article when additional information becomes available from the Washington State Patrol or the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
