Man on Scooter Dies After Being Struck by Car on State Route 20

Skagit County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a fatal crash involving a Scooter and a BMW around 10:04 p.m. on June 12th 2020 on  State Route 20 near Christianson Road in Anacortes.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, a 21 year old Oak Harbor woman was traveling Westbound on State Route 20 in a white 2013 BMW. Troopers say 30-year old Lamar Gaither of Anacortes was traveling in an unknown direction on a motorized scooter and for reasons unknown, crossed State Route 20 in front of her vehicle  and was struck by the BMW.

Troopers say Gaither was wearing a USDOT compliant helmet, but died at the scene due to his injuries.  The 21-year old driver of the BMW, along with a 21-year old passenger and an 18-month old passenger also of Oak Harbor,  were not injured in the crash.

The BMW was impounded by Carl’s Towing for safe keeping.

Troopers say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
