Two Dead in Wrong-Way Crash on SR20 near the Swinomish Slough

Skagit County, WA – The Washington State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle head-on collision on State Route 20 near the Swinomish Slough.

Troopers say a wrong-way vehicle was traveling Westbound in the Eastbound Lanes when it struck another vehicle.  According to a Tweet from Washington State Patrol Public Information Officer Heather Axtman, the crash has resulted in two fatalities.  The names, ages and hometowns of the victims has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The Eastbound Lanes remain closed as Troopers investigate the collision. Axtman said the involved vehicles are a 2015 Toyota Highlander and a 2000 Toyota 4-Runner.  One of the vehicles ended up hanging over the side rails of the bridge as a result of the collision.

Troopers Axtman asked the public to keep those involved as well as those who witnessed this tragic event in your thoughts. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Please continue to use alternate routes as Troopers work to investigate this collision as thoroughly as possible. They will reopen the roadway after their investigation is complete.
