Skagit County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a fatal crash involving four vehicles on State Route 20 near Tibbles Lane around 4:12 p.m. on February 2nd, 2021.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 55-year old Richard Heidecker or Anacortes was stopped on Southbound State Route 20 in a 1999 Ford F250 Pickup, waiting for Northbound Traffic to clear so he could make a left turn onto Tibbles Lane. Troopers say, 24-year old Rey Robles of Oak Harbor was stopped behind Heidecker in a grey 2012 Toyota Scion, waiting for Heidecker to make his left turn.
Troopers say that 28-year old Jessica Kimmel of Oak Harbor, was traveling Northbound State Route 20 behind Robles in a Green Volkswagen Golf. Troopers believe she didn’t see traffic ahead of her stopped until it was too late and attempted to avoid striking Robles vehicle by swerving, but ended up striking the rear of his vehicle, causing his vehicle to strike the vehicle ahead of him and her vehicle to spin into the Northbound Lane of travel where it was stuck by a Northbound 2021 International MV607 Truck being driven by 68-year old George Livesey of Blaine.
Troopers say the International, the Volkswagen and the Toyota ended up coming to rest in the Southbound Ditch and the Pickup came to rest on the Southbound shoulder of the road. Jessica Kimmel died at the scene. The other three drivers were not injured. Troopers say all four people were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The Volkswagen Golf was totaled and impounded by Christians Towing. The Toyota Scion was totaled and impounded by A1 Towing of Oak Harbor. The two trucks sustained reportable damage. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
