Sedro-Woolley, WA – On 12-06-21 at about 0730, Sedro-Woolley Officers were dispatched to the report of a subject walking down an alley in the 100 block of Talcott St carrying a shotgun. This is about a block north of the high school’s gym parking lot. Sedro-Woolley Officers were given a description of the male and his direction of travel.
At this time of day, the High School has a large amount of pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Officers took up positions in the area of the High School to protect those students who were outside. We did not request a lockout or lockdown from the school district because of the concern for those students who could get stuck outside the school buildings with the possible threat. The High School and District were in communication with us during the incident. We greatly appreciate their partnership in keeping our students safe!
A Sedro-Woolley Officer located the suspect walking in the area of W Jameson St and Batey St. This is just west of the High School property. The male was carrying what appeared to be a long gun or shotgun wrapped in paper. The Officer told the suspect to stop. The suspect told the Officer it was just a pellet gun and took off running away from the Officer still holding the firearm.
The Officer chased the suspect on foot. The suspect turned on the Officer and swung the shotgun at the Officer like it was a club. The Officer was able to deflect and tackle the suspect. The Officer was able to secure the suspect into handcuffs while the suspect continued to resist. The firearm was confirmed to be a functioning shotgun and was found to be loaded.
On the suspect, Officers found multiple baggies of substance. The substances are suspected to be heroin, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. The suspect was later found to be a 13 time convicted felon including convictions for attempt to elude police, residential burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, illegal possession of a firearm, assault on an Officer, and robbery.
The suspect was booked into Skagit County Jail on multiple charges related to this incident. At this time the location of the suspect and incident appears to be the only related factors to the schools in the area.
Officers continue to investigate the incident.
