Bothell Woman Killed by Wrong Way Driver on I-5 in Whatcom County

Whatcom County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded with multiple local fire responders to a two-car fatal head-on crash on Southbound I-5, just North of Nulle Road around 11:29 p.m. on February 1st, 2022.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 20-year old Annastacia D Lough of East Wenatchee, was allegedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was traveling at a very high rate of speed Northbound in the Southbound Lanes of I-5 in a red 2007 Lexus when she slammed head-on into a Southbound 1998 Toyota Avalon being driven by 31-year old Stephanie L Chinn of Bothell. Stephanie Chinn died at the scene as a result of the crash.

Prior to the crash, Troopers were responding to several 9-1-1 calls about a vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-5 at a high rate of speed. Several witnesses reported they were nearly hit by the wrong way vehicle, just prior to the crash.

Trooper Jacob Kennett wrote in a Twitter Post that the causing driver, Annastacia Lough was in custody on suspicion of Vehicular homicide and the investigation is ongoing.  She was seriously injured in the crash and transported to St. Joes Hospital in Bellingham for treatment where she remains due to her injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled.
