Everett Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle on State Route 20

Island County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a vehicle verses pedestrian collision in the 19000 block of State Route 20 in Island County around 9:00 a.m. on July 6th, 2022.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 60-year-old Michael Wendell of Coupeville, was traveling Southbound on State Route 20 in a blue 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. As he was approaching the 19700 block of state Route 20, a 23-year-old male, identified as Jacob Weigert of Everett, ran across all lanes of State Route 20 in front of traffic, towards a bus stop. Wendell’s vehicle struck Weigert in the roadway.

Weigert was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he died from his injuries.

Troopers say the cause of the collision was “Pedestrian in the Roadway.”
