Halloween Ball 2022

There are several local live music choices this year for the 21+ crowd on Halloween weekend; but one option exceeds all the rest. Sort of the “OG’s vs Current G’s” of Skagit County Bands event.

OG’s “Pavlov Jones,” along with current Alpha Dogs “Lazy Acres,” will be playing at The Halloween Ball on Saturday, October 29th.

If you followed local bands in the 90’s, you were probably a huge Pavlov Jones fan. They accomplished more in their short seven year run (from 1993-2000) then most young bands do in decades …. or ever!

In 1996, Pavlov Jones competed in “UnVailed,” a national competition of the best unsigned bands in the country, which originally drew more than 1,000 entries. Defeating hundreds of bands in the Western US resulted in Pavlov advancing to the semi-final round of the contest which was held in Las Vegas. The semi-final round contained the ‘Best Of The West’ where Pavlov Jones conquered their rivals who hailed from metropolises Salt Lake City, Albuquerque and Los Angeles. This win launched them into the “Final Four” of the national competition where they picked up 2nd place; a huge accomplishment for the band and proof that Skagit County births some of the most incredible musicians in the country. After winning runner up in “UnVailed,” the national best band competition, they ultimately opened for popular bands “The Cowboy Junkies,” “Everclear” and “Quiet Riot,” along with playing a benefit concert and performing one of their original songs on Kiro 7 News. Pavlov Jones has recently reunited and played a few shows in the past year. Although, their performances are few and far between; October 29th will be a rare opportunity for the general public to enjoy their music, which could seamlessly fit in alongside todays  popular hits.

Also playing at The Halloween Ball is current Skagit County favorite “Lazy Acres” who has won favorite band in Skagit County twice out of the last three years. Already headlining some of the bigger festivals in Skagit County, it would be no surprise to see them winning a national competition. They’ve already recorded an EP (self-titled “Lazy Acres” in 2019) and two LP’s (“Who We Are” in 2020 and “Front Porch” in 2022). All of their recordings are available on the major streaming services, or you can message them on their FB page to order CD’s or vinyl. Get on the Lazy Acres ‘band wagon’ early so you can say you “knew them when” on their inevitable rise in the music industry.

My personal choice for Halloween entertainment this year is The Halloween Ball. Come meet all the band members and enjoy two prominent Skagit County bands; it’ll be a fabulous spooktacular night.
