Mount Vernon Home Invasion Ends with Death of 16-Year old Burlington Suspect

Mount Vernon, WA – On November 11th, 2023, around 3:08 a.m., Mount Vernon Officers were dispatched to an assault in the 4700 block of Mount Baker Loop in Mount Vernon, WA.

Through a police investigation, it was determined that several juvenile males entered a single-family residence armed with weapons in search of an individual. There was a physical altercation between those living at the address and the suspects.

As a result of the altercation, a 16-year-old Burlington male SUSPECT was severely injured. He was transported to Skagit Valley Hosptial in Mount Vernon, where he later died from his injuries. A second suspect, identified only as a 15-year-old Mount Vernon male, was taken into custody. He was booked into the Skagit County Juvenile Detention Center on the charges of Burglary 1st Degree and Assault 1st Degree.

The occupants of the residence, all from Mount Vernon, received non-life-threatening injuries. An 18-year-old male and a 45-year-old female were treated and released from United General Hospital. A 23-year-old male was treated and released from Skagit Valley Hospital. a 42-year-old male was treated on scene by Medics with the Mount Vernon Fire Department.

Mount Vernon Police say weapons were recovered at the scene as evidence but did not specify in their press release what type of weapons. Officers say this is not believed to be a random act of violence and the suspects had prior knowledge of one or more of the occupants at the residence.

This is an ongoing investigation; Detectives are following up on additional leads in this case.
