Burlington, WA: The Washington state patrol says that a 56 year old Friday Harbor resident was killed in a single motorcycle accident just after 5:15pm on June 6th, 2014, near exit 230 in Burlington. According to the WSP press release, the 56 year old driver, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was riding a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle Eastbound on State Route 20 at a high rate of speed when he attempted to pass another vehicle on the left while entering the freeway. The press release says he was unable to make the turn, entered the southbound lanes of I-5, crossed two lanes of traffic, went through the grass and struck the guardrail. Passing motorist attempted to help the rider, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The State Patrol says that while the rider was wearing a helmet, he was not wearing a USDOT complaint helmet and that excessive speeds are the cause of the accident. The Harley was totaled and impounded by Carl’s Towing.
